  2. RESEARCH ENHANCEMENT AND COMPLIANCE SERVICESMISSION • To ensure research compliance with internal policies and federal governing agency regulations and to provide an environment that supports research advancements for the research community of Texas Southern University

Research Committees Research Development • Research Advisory Council • Faculty Development Committee • University Research Committee Research Compliance University Research Compliance Committees (URCC) • Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee • Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects • Radiation Safety Committee • Chemical Safety Committee (Newly Formed) • Biosafety Committee (Newly Formed) *Recombinant DNA Committee no longer exists. Recombinant DNA Protocols will now be reviewed by the Biosafety Committee.

  4. RESPONSIBILITIES Coordinate and oversee the award and procurement processes for internal seed grants and travel grants. Facilitate and coordinate the research protocol submission, review, approval and management processes. Ascertain that all federally required inspections, evaluations and program reviews are conducted and that all internal and external reporting is done efficiently and effectively. Ascertain proper animal environment, housing and management of the university animal care facilities Coordinate faculty development URCC workshops, seminars, training sessions and research enhancement programs. Coordinate Time and Effort Reporting Process

  5. MAJOR TASKS FOR MANAGING RESPONSIBILITIES Provide Oversight and Administrative Support to the University Research Committees. Along with the Faculty Development Committee, the University Research Committee and the Research Advisory Council, manage and administer the award and procurement processes for seed and travel grants. Along with the University Research Compliance Committees (URCC), screen, review and manage all research protocols. Serve as the liaison between the URCC’s , the Provost, Associate Provost, Deans, faculty members and students. Manage animal care facility operations and coordinate animal facility inspections and animal care and use program reviews. Conduct and or coordinate URCC workshops, research compliance training sessions, research development training sessions, seed grant procurement training sessions and research enhancement programs. Generating, Dissemination and conducting sample reviews of time and effort certification reports.

  7. 2010 – 2011 Seed Grant Applications • Deadline September 1, 2010 • Internal Reviews ($10,000- 15,000 Awards) • External Reviews ($25,000 and $50,000 Awards) • Guidelines and procedures for submission remain the same • Application Check List (Added this year) • Application Materials can be found on the Office of Research Website.

  8. 2010-2011 Travel Grant Application • Awarded throughout the fiscal year until funds are depleted • Applications must be submitted one month in advance of expected travel date • Maximum $2,000 per fiscal year • Guidelines and procedures for submission remain the same • Application Materials can be found on the Office of Research Website

Research Protocol Reviews TOPAZ Electronic Submission of Protocols • Protocols should be submitted to respective committee 1 month in advance of rigid deadlines • Monthly meeting dates posted on Office of Research Website • Animal Protocols • Human Subject Protocols • Request password for submission at larkins_ts@tsu.edu

Research Compliance Updates • Animal Care and Use Program Assurance Renewal Underway (5 year assurance expires November 2010) • Board approval to purchase cage washer for Gray Hall Animal Care Facilities • Improved best practices and husbandry in both Gray Hall and Science Building animal care facilities ie. Improved animal census process, improved restricted access • Office of Human Research Protection Assurance renewal obtained • Radiation Safety License Renewal • Training for radiation safety, animal care and use and human subjects use will be offered this fiscal year

  13. Research Week 2011 • April 4-8,2011 • College School Sessions Will be Combined • Activities will take place for 3 days only (Tuesday – Thursday)

  14. Time and Certification Report Updates • The new report was moved to Banner Production last week. • The labor dollars in the report will reflect all labor dollars expended including both grants and non-grants for 100% allocation. • This report will print on landscape 8.5x11 laser paper rather than green bar paper. • Title III funds has the description of work performed as required. • Reallocations will be managed through an interactive reallocation form on the OR Website
