  1. Parts of Speech Do Now #4: What are parts of speech? Can you give examples of some? Today’s Objective: Givena PPT presentation, students will apply their knowledge of parts of speech by taking notes, looking at examples, and working collaboratively with 90% accuracy. Today’s Standards: WOC 1.3 Grammar: Identify all parts of speech and types and structure of sentences.

  2. Agenda • Write homework in agenda/H.w. check/Do Now • Notes/Practice on Parts of Speech • Reader’s Workshop • Stations: Independent: Complete one-two articles Collaborative: Begin foldable for Parts of Speech/ lexile levels

  3. Parts of Speech • Apart of speechis the role that a word (or sometimes a phrase) plays in a sentence • There are 8 parts of speech • The first three we will learn are nouns, verbs, and adjectives • A noun is a person, place, thing, or idea • Example: teacher, school, book, language

  4. Parts of Speech • Anadjective describes a noun • Examples: pretty, blue, yellow, small • Averb shows action or a state of being • Examples: see, run, swim, think, angry

  5. Reader’s Workshop:Parts of Speech • As you are reading today, identify two nouns, verbs and adjectives and write it down in your notebook • Be prepared to share your six words (two of each of the three parts of speech) • We will now be reading independently. Remember, reading is thinking, so we must remain silent during this time.

You will be given a piece of construction paper to begin your foldable 2. Please write your name, date, and period on it. 3.   7. Quiz • Take out a piece of paper and write your name (first and last), date, and period in the right corner • Copy down the following sentences: 1. Jackie wanted her brother to come see her concert. 2. Matthew and Jamie went to the store to get their outfits for the dance. 3. Each person in the class needs to clean out (their, his or her) desk. • Either highlight the pronoun in green and the antecedent in yellow OR underline the pronoun once and the antecedent twice.
