  2. Biography • 04 July 1845 – 02 February 1920 • Born in Szinyeújfalu • Valéria Jekelfalussy (1826-1880) • Félix Szinyei Merse (1816-1875) • Hungarian painter and politician • He painted some of the earliest works of Impressionism in Hungary and Central Europe

  3. Schoolyears • 1856 Catholic Secondary School Eperjes • 1859-1861 Private student • 1864 Munich • Studied under Sándor Wagner • He made lots of pencil drawings of his brothers and then he became famous in Europe

  4. Hisfirstindependentyears • His first painting is called the Hesperus • He met his wife in 1872 • He painted his most famous picture, it is called May Day • In 1873 his first painter era ended, because the May Day was not a great succes
