  2. Goal Statement • The project focuses in the Indiana portion of the Maumee River basin, including St. Joseph, St. Mary, and Upper Maumee Watersheds

  3. Goal Statement • Develop water quality targeting information to facilitate the achievement of water quality standards and support 303(d) delisting with appropriate levels of implementation. • Estimate potential water quality improvements at field, watershed and basin scales due to the installation of various BMPs. • Work with watershed groups to include BMP modeling results into their existing watershed management and TMDL implementation plans to accelerate the achievement of water quality standards in St. Joseph, and St. Mary’s River watersheds and the reduction of NPS pollutant transport to Lake Erie.

  4. Approach: Obj. 1. Estimate effectiveness of BMPs • Overall technical approach • Synthesize the list of BMPs to be implemented in the watersheds as a part of the GLRI and other funded projects • Evaluate effectiveness of the BMPs in reducing transport of NPS pollutants at various spatial and temporal scales • Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) Model

  5. Approach: Obj. 2. Work with watershed groups to include BMP results into their existing watershed management and TMDL implementation plans • Overall technical approach • Assemble a Steering Committee that will provide guidance and coordination • Present the simulated BMP effectiveness to stakeholders for incorporation into watershed management plans • Develop educational materials and organize workshops on BMP selection, effectiveness, targeting strategies to reduce NPS pollutants to Western Lake Erie, and using the results in watershed planning.

The expected outcomes of the project • High quality, timely, and relevant information is readily available to inform stakeholder decision making • Modeling results and BMP options are available to stakeholders • Information on impact of individual and cumulative BMPs is available and used by stakeholders. • Information is used in watershed management planning andTMDL implementation. • BMP modeling results are incorporated in existing watershed management and TMDL implementation plans to improve water quality • Stakeholders communicate needs to modeling team. • Stakeholders use information from BMP modeling in their TMDL implementation and watershed management plans.
