5 Key Purposes of Housing and Residential Education • Providing for CSUCI’s short and long term student housing and living- learning needs. • Develop meaningful and effective relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
Supporting Student Matriculation and Retention Assumptions: • A number of factors contribute to a student’s decision to attend CSUCI. • A student may choose not to attend CSUCI due to the unavailability of housing. This possibility is higher for new students – freshmen and transfers.
Supporting Student Matriculation and Retention Statistics: • Among our sister campuses, CI has the third highest percentage of students living on campus at 23% for Fall 2008. • In a survey conducted last year, CSUCI resident students reported that living on campus… • “has had a valuable impact on my educational experience at CSUCI” – 73% • “has had a positive impact on my studies” – 64%

Planning for the Future • Development of Student Housing projects within the CSU require the following: • Identification of housing need based on occupancy statistics and enrollment projections - COMPLETED • Completion of a Feasibility and Market Demand Study by the campus – FINALIZING • Evaluation by a Housing Review Board • Approval by the Board of Trustees – MARCH ‘09

Planning for The Future • The Student Housing Proposal Development, Approval, and Building Process requires a lead time of: 3 - 4 Years • We are developing a proposal to open the Phase III Housing as early as 2011, though our demand is expected to exceed supply in Fall 2009.
