  1. Ziro Festival, founded in 2012, celebrates passion for the arts, sustainability, community, and cultural diversity. The festival promotes indigenous tribes and empowers artists from Northeast India, while showcasing the global independent music scene. It is a celebration that transcends languages and genres. The festival’s locally sourced food offerings are renowned for their diversity and deliciousness, showcasing the region’s unique culinary heritage. Set against the picturesque Ziro Valley in Arunachal Pradesh, India, the festival prioritizes sustainability practices by using locally-sourced materials like bamboo and employing local artisans and community members to build its infrastructure and host attendees. The festival’s skills training and cultural exchange programs have empowered community members to be actively involved in producing the festival. Visit the Ziro Festival of Music website to learn more about the upcoming festival at https://www.zirofestival.com You will be happy that you did! Ziro festival of music is a place where the people of the Apatani tribe and many other tribal groups in the North- East of India come together to enjoy and dance with their favorite musicians. This event has been held every year since 2012 to promote independent musicians in the region. The festival has seen the likes of artists such as Lee Ranaldo, Steve Shelley, and Damo Suzuki performing on stage. It is hosted by the Ziro Valley in the state of Arunachal Pradesh and lasts for four days. The festival hosts a wide variety of genres and artists. The past lineups have featured bands from all over India as well as a number of indie acts. It is best to be open to new artists and genres when attending this event because it is a great opportunity to discover music that you may have never heard of before. Some music festivals of the bands that are popular at the festival include Shillong collective Da Minot whose style is inspired by Khasi music, Dr Declan Oppenheimer’s Polyphonic Experience which is a four-piece band that blends folk and rock, and David Angu and the Tribe from Itanagar who play mellow music. Another unique aspect of the festival is its focus on local talent. It is one of the only festivals in India that does this and it is very successful in attracting crowds that support the festival’s mission. It also focuses on sustainability and the environment by following eco-friendly waste management practices and a no single-use plastic policy. The main stages at the festival, known as Polo (Moon) and Donyi (Sun), are built using locally-sourced bamboo.

  2. The music and the scenic setting make this festival a one-of-a-kind experience. For visitors who want to stay away from camping, the Hapoli town has a few small hotels and lodges that can be booked for the duration of the festival. It is recommended to book accommodation in advance because accommodations near the festival venue fill up quickly. The town’s local homestays are also an excellent option because they give guests the chance to live with the Apatani tribe people and learn more about their culture. Ziro Festival of Music – India’s Greatest Outdoor Music Festival is on 28th September – 1st October in Ziro Valley, Arunachal Pradesh, India.
