Variables • Independent Variable- The factor in an experiment that is purposefully changed by the experimenter. • Dependent Variable- The factor that is influenced (changed) as a result of the independent variable. • Example: What effect does miracle grow have on the number of flowers a tulip will produce? • IV – amount of miracle grow • DV- number of flowers
Constants • In order the isolate the impact that the independent variable has in an experiment it is necessary to keep all other factors constant or unchanging. • Constants- Factors in an experiment that are intentionally kept the same. • Example: Same type of tulips, amount of water, amount and type of soil
Control • Control is the group in an experiment that does not receive the independent variable. • Example: The tulip plant that doesn’t receive the miracle grow
