Nagl, Cancer Institute 2.0 Guidelines for Information About Antibody Therapy Experiments (GIAATE) Tree 1.0 Introduction Research groups developing antibody therapies collect diverse data elements from experiments due to different research focus and group culture. As inter-group collaboration and translational research become the norm, it is useful to develop a community wide data standard that consists of an agreed minimum set of data elements to be collected from each experiment. Data standards have been shown to facilitate data sharing and enable valid comparisons between experiments. This poster presents an approach to creating data standards for antibody therapy experiments. It emphasizes community consensus on the choice of data elements and the definitions used to describe them. The GIAATE is a structure containing data elements relevant to antibody therapies. The guidelines are laid out in the form of a tree with each branch representing an area in antibody therapy; each leaf denoting a data element which describes a property of the area. The complete GIAATE tree can be viewed at http://www.antibodysociety.org. 2.1 Common Data Elements Common data elements are structures which facilitate the description of an object. It consists of the object, the property of the object as well as the range of values that could be validly used to describe the object. In addition, it provides definitions of the object, property and value domain. Example A : Car Colour Object: Car Concept: A motor vehicle with four wheels usually propelled by etc Property: Colour Concept: The visual perceptual property in humans etc Value Domain: Red, Green or Blue Example: Antibody Stability Object: Antibody Concept: A type of protein made by B lymphocytes etc Property: Stability Concept: The quality of being free from change etc Value Domain: String of characters 4.0 Extending the GIAATE As research foci shift with new findings and equipment, the GIAATE must incorporate new data elements to remain useful to the community. Researchers who create their own data elements may choose to show them to the Antibody Society which would incorporate them onto the list of core data elements on the website. Alternatively researchers could suggest new areas of interest to the Antibody Society which would build the new CDE. Both approaches involve reaching community consensus on the feasibility of collecting the data type as well as on the definitions used to describe it. In developing the CDEs for GIAATE, we have used concepts from the National Cancer Institute Thesaurus. 3.0 Data Collection and Feedback We propose that core data elements be hosted on the Antibody Society website. Research groups may collect data according to the GIAATE and base their databases around the same structure. Researchers may also use the GIAATE tree to assist in planning of experiments and writing of protocols to ensure that data elements generally considered important in the community exists and are referred to accordingly. We would greatly appreciate feedback on the feasibility of collecting data according to the GIAATE, as well as the choice of the individual data elements.
