  2. Overview Reflection on Approved 2017-2018 Special Education Budget Secondary Special Education Numbers Lee-Davis High School Staffing Next steps…

  3. Special Education Budget • Here are the main points for the budget for the 2017-2018 school year. • There are many positions that are accounted for in the SPED budget: Administrative Personnel, Non-Personnel, Secondary positions, elementary position, Preschool positions, Psychologist, Director, Senior Teachers and Instructional assistance, & transportation. • There are programs that are taken into account as well: • Homebound Support • Jails • State Operated Programs – state hospitals, detention homes, Woodrow Wilson Rehab center • Regional Tuition – cheaper to educate in a less restrictive environment as to a more restrictive (sometime the school is more restrictive)

  4. Special Education Budget con’t: • Overall, the Special Education budget was cut from 2016-2017 to 2017-2018 school years. • State Funding: (-$8,335) • Local Share: (-$6,251) (10% of the required local effort) • SPED Leadership: 22.02 FTEs (+11.01 from “16-’17) • SPED Teachers: 231 FTEs (-4 from ‘16-’17) • Caseload management: Increase 2.5 students per teacher • Homebound – increased funds • Jails – increased funds • Title VI – B – increased funds (Federal money)

  5. Secondary Staffing Numbers * I am thankful that I did not experience any cuts, but our numbers have increased since January. The December 1 child count will impact staffing for next year.

  6. Lee-Davis High School Staffing Prior to assigning my staff to “positions” in the master schedule, I worked with the Head Counselor, Principal, Assistant Principal over scheduling and the other 12 month counselor to review the number of blocks required to cover the special ed services per our IEPs. There are 4 core subjects to cover and special education classes (resources, functional academics and living skills)

  7. Coverage of Services HISTORY ENGLISH SPECIAL EDUCATION MATH SCIENCE 116 Blocks to be covered

  8. SPED Master Schedule

  9. Next Steps • Interview: • I am losing one teacher to a new career choice. • IEP service delivery model • Currently IEPs are written with collaborative or direct instruction as the “services”. Starting next fall, we will switch to a minutes per week based on specialized instruction for their IEP goals and in-class support for accommodations and modifications. • This changes EVERYTHING with staffing and the master schedule.
