SEGEMAR Since 1885, the Government of Argentina, under a variety of administrative organisations, has carried out systematic geological surveys and mining studies over large parts of the country. Extensive mapping conducted by the Geological Survey lead to the discovery of numerous prospects providing the geological framework for mineral exploration.

  3. SEGEMAR • More than 80% of the prospects has been discovered by the State. However, only 5% of the surface territory has been incorporated to the mining cycle. • Until 1990, coverage with geological information represents only 15% of the surface territory.

SEGEMAR Highlights 1994: Approval of the National and Thematic Map Program (Law No 24.224) “The execution of a regular and systematic geological charting of the continental and insular territory, submarine platform and antartic territory of Argentina, on different scales, is hereby established” .

  15. INTEMIN INSTITUTE OF MINING TECHNOLOGY

  16. INTEMIN INTEMIN was conceived as a technological support center. The main activities in which INTEMIN is engaged are: • Transfer of its own and/or acquired Technology. • Services in general, and specifically analytical and materials testings. • Research and Development.

  17. INTEMIN - Mineral Processing INTEMIN develops methods to process, treat, concentrate and purify minerals, mainly those of potentially economic interest which are particularly demanded as fillers of manufactured goods.

  18. INTEMIN - Materials INTEMIN provides services and technical advise; offers courses and training programs; carries on research and development projects ranging from mineral raw materials to processes and finished products. Activities are mainly directed to industries such as ceramics, glass, refractories and other inorganic materials.

INTEMIN - Applied Geology • Geological studies of mineral deposits, different kinds of samplings, geological and mining labors mapping. • Technological consultancy on quarries, calculation of reserves, etc. • Geotechnical studies (in and off-mine site tests, projects, quarry design, slope, and tunnel stability control). • Advisory services on the characterization of mineral raw materials and rocks; for mineral raw material producers, particularly small and medium size companies.

INTEMIN - Economy and Project Assessment INTEMIN provides information and assistance to the mining sector, serving clients from the private and public sectors concerned with the evaluation, development and management of mineral resources. It has the resources and experience to provide comprehensive support throughout the project cycle, from resource evaluation for investment, through project development and operation.

INTEMIN - Analytic Chemistry Laboratory INTEMIN operates a top-notch chemical laboratory, which covers the entire range of quantitative and qualitative analysis of minerals and environmental samples. The laboratory has state-of-the-art instrumentation and equipment. Strictly standard methods are applied to offer chemical test services based on ISO 17025 standards. The laboratory participates in interlab runs and relies on significant stocks of certified reference materials for the validation of all analytical techniques employed.
