  1. Rabbi Jesus Pastor Jon Fulton March 31, 2019 Series: 360 Jesus

  2. 21 Eight days later, when the baby was circumcised, • he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel even before he was conceived. 22 Then it was time • for their purification offering, as required by the law of Moses after the birth of a child; so his parents took him • to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord. 23 The law • of the Lord says, “If a woman’s first child is a boy, he • must be dedicated to the Lord.” 24 So they offered the sacrifice required in the law of the Lord—“either a • pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.” • --Luke 2:21-24 (NLT)

  3. 41 Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for • the Passover festival. 42 When Jesus was twelve years • old, they attended the festival as usual. 43 After the celebration was over, they started home to Nazareth, • but Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents didn’t miss him at first, 44 because they assumed he was • among the other travelers. But when he didn’t show up • that evening, they started looking for him among their relatives and friends. 45 When they couldn’t find him, they went back to Jerusalem to search for him there. • --Luke 2.41-45 (NLT)

  4. 46 Three days later they finally discovered him in the Temple, sitting among the religious teachers, listening • to them and asking questions. 47 All who heard him • were amazed at his understanding and his answers. • 48 His parents didn’t know what to think. “Son,” his mother said to him, “why have you done this to us? • Your father and I have been frantic, searching for you everywhere.” (cont’d) • --Luke 2:46-52 (NLT)

  5. 49 “But why did you need to search?” he asked. • “Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?” 50 But they didn’t understand what he meant. • 51 Then he returned to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. And his mother stored all these • things in her heart. 52 Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people. • --Luke 2:46-52 (NLT)

  6. 1. Rabbi Jesus teaches • us that religion • leads to a relationship

  7. 1 There was a man named Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader who was a Pharisee. 2 After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus. “Rabbi,” he • said, “we all know God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.” • --John 3:1-2 (NLT)

  8. Originally “Rabbi” literally meant “Great in number” due to the great number of facts a Rabbi knew. • During Jesus’s time, the term “Rabbi” meant master or teacher.

  9. 2. Rabbi Jesus teaches us that a relationship leads to a resurrection

  10. 16 When he came to the village of Nazareth, his • boyhood home, he went as usual to the synagogue • on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures. • 17 The scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to • him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where this was written: 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon • me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to • the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives • will be released, that the blind will see… (cont’d) • --Luke 4:16-21 (NLT)

  11. …that the oppressed will be set free, 19 and that • the time of the Lord’s favor has come.” • 20 He rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the • attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the synagogue looked at him intently. 21 Then he began to speak • to them. “The Scripture you’ve just heard has • been fulfilled this very day!” • --Luke 4:16-21 (NLT)

  12. “When the dead rise, they will neither • marry nor be given in marriage; • they will be like the angels in heaven” • --Mark 12:25 (NIV)

  13. “For just as the Father raises the dead • and gives them life, even so the Son gives • life to whom he is pleased to give it.” • --John 5:21 (NIV)

  14. “…a time is coming when all who are in their graves • will hear his [Son of Man’s] voice and come out —  • those who have done good will rise to live, and • those who have done evil will rise to be condemned”. • --John 5:28-29 (NIV)

  15. “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes • in me will live, even though he dies; and • whoever lives and believes in me will never die”. • --John 11:25-26 (NIV)

  16. “…whoever lives and believes • in me will never die”.
