  4. Our Objectives Today You’ll be able to: • State DLDS/library system expectations • Log on to SkillSoft • Navigate and select your courses • Demonstrate working on a lesson • Discuss success tips • Earn 2 CE Credit Hours

Project Overview • History • FY2006 – NETg – desktop only • FY2007 – Thompson – added high tech • FY2008 – SkillSoft – new vendor • FY2009 – SkillSoft – added business seats • Present • September 8, 2009 - August 31, 2010 • Vendor product is SkillSoft • Open to all library staff – full-time & part-time

Expectations for Participants • DLDS requirements: • Successfully complete at least one course • Complete online assessments at 80% or higher • Participate in blended learning activities (ie discussion groups) • Evaluate your experiences: • Complete SkillSoft online evaluation form • Complete a final project evaluation

  7. Expectations for Participants Library system requirements: • Select courses to complete • Print your certificate from SkillSoft • Apply learning to a work project or communication • Keep your supervisor informed • Take as many courses as possible during subscription time frame

  8. CE Credit Hours • CE Credit Hours = Course duration • Best Practice-Print your report as soon as you complete a course • Print a certificate when you finish the course and complete assessment with 80%

  9. SkillSoft Technical Requirements • Basically need most current version of JAVA and Adobe Flash • Select Technical Support from left menu on your SkillSoft home page • Select Browser Capabilities Check from Technical Support page

  11. SkillSoft Registration • If you do not already have a SkillSoft login, you must first register. The registration link is located on the SkillSoft login page. • Use your email address as your user id

  12. Getting Started with SkillSoft • Go to MERLIN- www.merlincommunity.org • Select SkillSoft Login Link • Login screen appears • Username = work email address (example nbeegan@carr.org for Nini Beegan) • Password = whatever you set

  32. Printing Certificates • Access the My Report page • Select the View Certificate control button next to the name of the completed learning event. The Certificate will open in a new window. • Select File/Print

  34. Lab Time • Take some time now to work on your first course! • We’ll regroup in ___ minutes

  35. Tips for Success • Meet with you supervisor to establish: • Scheduling • Chunk learning into at least one hour at a time • Formalize it – Add to your calendar and library schedules • Equipment needs • PC needs to meet technical requirements • Headset is recommended

Suggestions for Supervisor Support • Provide a quiet workspace • Schedule uninterrupted time in blocks of at least 1 hour • Alternately, offer time during a work week for participant to work offsite • Inform branch/location colleagues that staff member will be taking part in online learning and earning CE credit hours

Tips for Success (2) • Let co-workers know when you are learning online • Post signage stating that you are engaged in Online Training and when you will be available again AND/OR … • Use a headset • Prepare your workspace • Turn off telephone ringer/pagers/cell phones • Turn off email and instant message alerts
