Today we will be learning how to use punctuation marks at the end of sentences.

  5. What is a period? A period is a point used at the end of a declarative sentence, or a sentence that simply tells you something.

  6. Example sentences ending with a period • I enjoy baking cookies. • The classroom is filled with children. • My class is going to the zoo today.

  7. What is a question mark? A question mark is the ending mark used at the end of a sentence that asks a question.

  8. Example sentences using question marks • Did you go to the park today? • How many stickers do I have? • Can we see elephants at the zoo?

  9. What is an exclamation point? An exclamation point is a mark used at the end of a sentence to give a strong feeling or significance to the statement.

  10. Example sentences ending with an exclamation point • I love ice cream! • The children are scared and screaming! • Wow, that slice of pizza is huge!!

  11. Let’s sum up what we have learned about punctuation marks! A period ends a statement. A question mark ends a question. An exclamation point shows excitement or strong feelings for a statement.
