LOOKING FOR A JOB • Interests – things you like to do, work with people, alone, indoors, outdoors, etc. • Aptitudes – the things that a person is good at doing with ease (math, drawing) • Work Values – attitudes and beliefs about the importance of various work activities • Money, security, independence, prestige.

Things needed before looking for a Job • Social Security Number (9 digits) 123-45-6789(3-2-4 ) • This allows the government to keep track of your earnings for the social security system. • When you retire you will receive income payments from the social security system based on your lifetime earnings. (this is take out of each check your whole working life.

  3. Where to go to find jobs • 15% of all jobs are published • 85% of all jobs are not published Four main sources for finding a job • Networking – family, friends, neighbors. • Job Service – state funded system for the public. • Private Agencies – find you a job for a fee (these are usually very high paying) • Newspaper Classified Ads • 8 different classifications
