  2. Southeastern IndianaWater Supply Study Meeting Agenda • Mayor William Graham – Welcome to Scottsburg • Jim McGoff: Program Director – IFA • Jack Wittman: Lead Hydrologist – INTERA, Inc. • Time for questions

  3. Southeastern IndianaWater Supply Study Previous Work • Evaluation of Water Utility Planning In Indiana, 2015 • Evaluation of Indiana’s Water Utilities Report, 2016 • Why-fi Water Study (Survey of 554 Community Water Systems) Moving Forward • Study authorized by Senate Enrolled Act 416 • “Studying regional water ownership issues, including cross-border issues”

  4. Southeastern IndianaWater Supply Study Purpose • Understand the water supply needs and challenges (access and availability) unique to Southeastern Indiana • Evaluate potential economies of scale and the feasibility of a regional water supply option for Southeastern Indiana • Develop regional water supply project concepts that secure long-term reliable and affordable water supplies for communities and economic development

  5. Why do we need additional alternative supplies for water systems in SE Indiana? Challenges, needs, new insights

  6. 2016 IFA Utility Survey • The IFA-created Survey and the AWWA Water Audit were sent to 554 PWSIDs • All utilities responded to the Survey • 22 of the utilities were exempt from the Audit because they didn’t have flow meters • Some utilities have multiple PWSIDs and, therefore, combined their responses • The final merged data set includes 520 Utilities • 100% participation by Utilities

  7. 2016 IFA Utility Survey North Central South

  8. 2016 IFA Utility Survey North Central South

  9. 2016 IFA Utility Survey North Central South Percent medium and below 16.0% 17.5% 41.6%

  10. Future Growth • Southeastern Indiana will be growing for the next 40 years • Small communities should be able to say “yes” to new growth and have the resources to accommodate large projects

  11. Main Length Distribution

  12. Main Length Distribution Southern – Highest main length per customer

  13. Map of Water Utility Service Areas (2014) Variation in Water Systems • Northern tier is Lake Michigan • North of Indianapolis small systems surrounded by self-suppliers. • Central Indiana contains the city and metro-area. • Southern Indiana has small systems that have large service areas. Additional regional supplies could help.
