  1. Creating S.M.A.R.T. Goals Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Timely

  2. Specific • Who:      Who is involved? • What:     What do I want to accomplish? • Where:    Identify a location. • When:     Establish a time frame. • Which:    Identify requirements and constraints. • Why:      Specific reasons, purpose or benefits of accomplishing the goal.

  3. Specific : Example • General: Do good in Spanish class. • SPECIFIC: I will get an A in Spanish 2b this trimester.

  4. Measurable • To determine whether your goal is measurable ask: • How much (growth, grades, Spanish)? • How many (ACTFL levels, students)? • How will I know when it is accomplished?

  5. Attainable • What is your plan? • How will you achieve this goal? • Establish a time frame

  6. Realistic • Your goal must represent an object toward which you are willingand able to work on. • Do you truly believe it can be accomplished? • Have I accomplished similar goals in the past? • What would have to happen in order to achieve the goal?

  7. Timely - Tangible • The goal needs a time frame • Daily (In class 100% of time) • Weekly • Monthly • Trimester • Something you can taste, touch, smell, see, or hear • Grade in PowerSchool • Homework in composition book • Speaking more Spanish

Examples of SMART goals • I will speak only Spanish 100% of the time once I walk in the door everyday. • I will complete 90% of the homework on time each week. • I will be a positive, kind, accountable, on task member of the classroom community • I will strive to reach Novice High by the end of the year. • I will participate to the best of my ability 100% of the time by staying in Spanish and asking others to as well. • I will pass Spanish 2a with a C or higher at the end of the third trimester. • I will write down and learn a new Spanish vocabulary word from class each day.
