The Lame Beggar Gospel • The miracle of healing in Acts 3 is a roadmap to spiritual salvation. • Lame from birth (v2) • Marked with sin through the seed of Adam. • Placed in the temple courts (v2) • Inches and light years from God. • Attention and expectation (v5) • Salvation finds him, untidy, unprepared.

  3. The Lame Beggar Gospel • Only meaningful gift: Jesus (v6) • Peter cuts to the chase on the man’s true needs. • Instantaneous healing (v7) • In Christ, we are a new creation! (2 Cor 5:17) • Walking and praising God (v9) • New powers bestowed, thanksgiving abounds! • New powers?

  4. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 14:26

  5. When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment John 16:8

  6. Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace. It was strengthened; and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it grew in numbers, living in the fear of the Lord. Acts 9:31

  7. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; John 14:16

  8. In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. Romans 8:26

  9. Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to. Acts 16:6-7

  10. The Lame Beggar Gospel • Astonished people came running (v11) • “Collateral opportunities” • It is by Christ’s sacrifice (v13) • God raised Him from the dead (v15) • Made strong by faith in Jesus (v16) • Complete healing by same faith (v16) • The Gospel presented.

  11. The Lame Beggar Gospel • A time will come… (v21) • God has a plan, the window is limited… • Rejector = rejection (v23) • Everyone exercises a choice. • Result? +/- 2000-5000 (3:4) • Denial and Suppression (v16, 17) • Active and persistent campaign to squelch.

The Lame Beggar Gospel • God is Sovereign (v24) • God’s ultimate power and control acknowledged. • Even “bad” events are part of the plan (v28) • Realization of God’s complete and complex control. • Prayer for boldness (v29) • Seek courage and opportunity to share the Gospel. • Prayer answered (v31) • Filled with the Holy Spirit, speak boldly.
