  3. Hod did they use the land? • Bonanza – large acre; specializing in cattle • Sod Homes; windmills; threshers, etc. • Boom Towns….Ghost Towns • “Mother Earth”; Nomadic; follow the herd

  4. How did their lives change in the late 1800’s? • Loss of land and culture; reservation life • Decreased number of “strikes”. • Trouble with railroad prices and cycle of debt. • Barbed wire makes cattle drive difficult.

  5. Why would they have conflicts with others living in the frontier? • Ownership of land;Fear of Indian attacks • Different culture and values; loss of land • “Wild West” vigilante culture • Compete with farmers for political power
