Principles of Business Marketing & Finance Warm-up and Textbook Activity

This is the first week of Principles of Business Marketing & Finance class. Students will complete warm-up questions and start reading Chapter 1 of the textbook. They will also work on a group poster activity to represent Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.

  6. File Management • Go to your student drive • Create a folder and name it: PBMF • To create a folder, go to File in the menu and select New Folder or right click and select new folder. • Please help your classmates if needed • I recommend creating another folder within PBMF called Warm-ups. • You should attempt to keep your folders organized in this manner. • NEVER save files in My documents or on your desktop.

  7. Warm Up In a new Word document, begin a new set of warm ups, write the following questions and relevant answers. Save asClass Period Last Name First Name Warm ups 1. Save the file into your PBMF folder; you will turn in your file at a later date for a grade. • What is the URL of my website? • Name 2 places you can find details of assignments and deadlines? • What color are deadlines written in?   8. Textbook • Each student get a Principles of Business and Financetextbook off the bookshelf. • We will read Chapter 1-1 (pg. 6-11) together as a class. • Review ‘checkpoints’ as we go • End of Section Assessment (review as a class)

Chapter 1 Individual Assignment • Go to https://caltonsweb.weebly.com to retrieve the C1 Individual Assignment and then save it into the PBMF folder on your student drive as Class Period Last Name First Name C1 Assignment. • You will answer questions using the internet, textbook, and your own experience and opinions. • Deadline – end of class period • Done? Drag and drop or copy to Calton Dropbox on the S:drive. • Finished? Go online and research Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs further to prepare for next activity.

  10. C H A P T E R 1 NEEDS AND WANTS • Needs are essential • Wants add to the quality of life • Needs and wants are unlimited

  11. Hierarchy of Needs • Based on classic research by Maslow in 1950s. • Widely taught in business schools. • Subsequently developed and expanded in 1960s, 1970s and 1990s. • Originally had 5 levels. • Most up to date version has 8 levels.

  12. Group Poster Activity • In assigned groups create poster that represents the hierarchy of needs. • Do your research before starting your poster. All members in your group should participate in the research and drawing of the hierarchy. • Go to https://caltonsweb.weebly.com and open the document Maslow’s Poster activity for instructions. • Make it look pretty; I will display it on the wall for Back to School Night. • Deadline – next class period (be sure to put names on the front of the poster).
