  2. October 2007 Prof MS Swaminathan launches the Coalition and agrees to serve as Chair November 2007 First meeting of the Steering Committee ; Leadership Agenda papers requested (task forces established)

  3. 2008-09: Three Task Forces worked to build consensus and prepare Leadership Agenda for Action

  4. January-September 2008: Expert Task Forces drafted the ‘Leadership Agenda for Action’ • Introduction by Prof Swaminathan with Five Point Charter • “Overcoming the Curse of Malnutrition in India” • “Essential interventions for Reducing Malnutrition in Infants and Young Children” • “Essential Interventions for Improving Nutrition for Girls and Women” (November 2009)

  5. Are based on global and Indian evidence • Resulted from expert deliberation and consensus • Include “What” should be done and “How” Leadership Agenda Recommendations

  6. Increase focus on nutrition security • Strengthen leadership and coordination mechanisms • Focus on proven, essential Interventions • Reach the critical target groups • Empower women • Strengthen critical systems • Coordinate a comprehensive nutrition education programme Key Recommendations

  7. Timely initiation of breastfeeding within one hour of birth • Exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of life • Timely introduction of complementary foods at six months • Age-appropriate CF feeding- quality, quantity and frequency • Safe handling of CF and hygienic feeding practices • Full immunisation, bi-annual vitamin A with deworming • Frequent ,appropriate ,and active feeding during and after illness • Timely and quality therapeutic feeding and care • Improved food and nutrient intake for adolescent girls • Improved food and nutrient intake for adult women Essential Interventions for Infants and Young Children

Improve Quantity and Quality of Food and Nutrient Intake • Prevent and Manage Micronutrient Deficiencies • Improve Access to Safe Drinking Water, Sanitation and Hygiene • Universalize Female Education and Completion of Secondary Schooling for Girls • Increase Access to Basic Health Services • Improve Gender Equity Essential Interventions for Improving Girls’ and Women’s Nutrition

March 26-29, 2012: Operationalising Block Operational Strategy –Visit to Gumla • May 15,2012, Coalition Partner’s meeting • Mat 15, 2012, Global Lessons in Achieving Nutrition Security and their Application to the Indian Context • May 29,2012, Stakeholders meeting in Jharkhand • May 29,2012, Meeting of Monitoring & Evaluation Action Group with Delhi Government and DRCs • July 2,2012,Meeting with Minister, WCD,GoI • Meeting on Block Operational Strategy design with implementing partners (Save the Children, Naandi Foundation, World Vision, Welfhiferhunger, Reliance Foundation and others)= around 30 blocks • Continue IGNOU Nutrition Course on “Sustainable Development & Nutrition Security” Update-2

  15. Supporting selected collaborative activities e.g. PM’s Nutrition Council, Voluntary Action Group, Nutrition Resource Portal • Provide technical assistance to Coalition partner’s in implementing Block Operational Strategy and State Nutrition Missions/Councils Upcoming Key Activities
