  1. L7.5 The “Other” Trig Functions A. You should be able to find the values of the “other” trig functions for our special angles → ref angles. B. You should be able to find the values of the “other” trig functions for other angles using your calculator. C. Given the value of one trig function at some angle and the quadrant in which that angle resides, you should be able to find the values of the remaining 5 trig fcns.

  2. Example: Find L7.5 STEPS for determining trigfcn θ, using ref angles Sketch Quadrant 1 of the unit circle, w/ angles, cos & sin values. • If necessary, remove any redundant rotations from θ’s • angle measure, i.e., ±2πn or ±360n°. 2. Determine Quadrant → the sign of trig function (+ or −). 3. Find θref. Use Q1 unit circle →the abs value of the sin/cos value.

Examples • L7.5 exercises • Express each function in terms of a reference angle. • tan 315° b) c) sec 695.5° d) • Find the exact values of the functions above • without a calculator. • Are all of them possible? • If not, find them (to 4 dec places) w/ a calculator. • Find values to 4 decimal places: • csc 122° b) tan 237° • c) sec 5 d) cot (-2) • Be sure to check mode, OR use radian mode and use ° symbol.
