  3. What is a CWPP? A Community Wildfire Protection Plan is a mechanism for communities to address their wildfire risk, promoting collaboration and local action.

Metro Fire CWPP: Overview FEMA is funding the CWPP, a geoportal and EIR Stakeholders in the CWPP include decision-makers in affected agencies in the District [Cities, County Departments] District is using the consulting team of Ascent, Intterra, and Wildland Resource Management Draft Plan is expected mid-December, geo-portal in January, DEIR in April

CWPP: Three Basic Criteria • Collaboration • Local government representatives • State government representatives • in consultation with federal agencies, and • Other interested parties • Prioritize Fuel Reduction • Recommend types and methods of treatment • Protect one or more at-risk communities and essential infrastructure • Address Structural Ignitibility • Recommend measures to reduce ignitability of structures throughout the plan area

  6. What area is Covered by the CWPP? Covers almost entirety of Sacramento County (not City) Formed in 2000 Governed by 9 Board of Directors Most of the American River Parkway

  7. CWPP: A Collaborative Process • Establish a Community Base Map • Agree upon wildfire risks in the District • Develop a set of projects to reduce risks • Fuel (vegetation) • Structural ignition • Emergency response enhancements • Changes to codes, public education, incentives for property owner action • Prioritize projects • Determine roles and responsibilities, and funding • Monitor, adapt, improve, update plan

  8. Results-Outcomes • Shared vision of current situation • Open statement of priorities • Common, shared path for improvement • Greater collaboration with partners/stakeholders • Increased potential for funding/efficiency
