  1. College Exploration Morgan Graber Period 7 August 30th, 2012

  2. Average GPA and SAT of enteringfreshmen So far in high school, my accumulative GPA is about 3.9, which is right around each of these averages. My first SAT score was 1830, but I can hopefully raise my score by a few points when I retake it. However, that score would be somewhat acceptable with all 3 schools.

  3. Tuition (per year) and Majors All of these seem like impossible amounts of money just to go to college, but I guess they were right when they said it’d be expensive. I have no idea what I want to do with my life, but each of these popular subjects of each school seem very interesting to me.

  4. Student to Teacher Ratio and Average Class Sizes All of these ratios are extremely similar, therefore I don’t think they would sway my decision one direction or another. I would much rather have class sizes smaller than my high school classes opposed to larger because I would feel like more of an actual student rather than a random face in the crowd.

  5. Population and Acceptance Rate I would enjoy going to a larger school over a small school just for the sake of a full and spirited atmosphere. All of these acceptance rates are fairly similar. All I can see from these is that I have about a 50/50 chance of going to college…

  6. A closer look at ClemsonSC Public School • Location: Clemson, SC. I have taken a tour of this campus and it was absolutely beautiful. It would also only be a 30 minute drive to my parents. • Campus Life: The campus includes a movie theater, intramural sports, over 50 fitness classes per week, and many more enticing activities that make Clemson look like a blast. • Interesting Fact: Clemson has a career center that offers mock job interviews, looks over and edits resumes, and helps with getting internship opportunities. I feel like this would be extremely useful. • Mascot/Colors: The Clemson Tigers are white, orange, and purple. I could definitely see myself in an orange spirit shirt cheering on the football team in the amazing stadium on Clemson’s campus.

  7. A closer look at TCUPrivate Institution • Location: Fort Worth, TX. Although it is a 2 hour flight to see my parents, both sets of grandparents live in this area, so I could have great places to go if I got homesick. • Campus Life: The campus includes a huge recreation center that includes every type of sport facility I could imagine. They have also finished constructing new buildings in recent years, so the campus is state-of-the-art. • Interesting Fact: Texas Christian University takes an average of over 400 international students representing about 85 different countries. It would be awesome to get to know some of them. • Mascot/Colors: The colors of TCU are white (for a clean game) and purple (for royalty). The mascot is the Horned Frogs and this school seems to have tons of school pride at their NCAA sports events.

  8. A closer look at UCSB UC (obviously) • Location: Santa Barbara, CA. This town is so incredibly beautiful with amazing beaches and perfect weather. However, it would be a 5 hour flight to see my parents. • Campus Life: This school offers After Dark activities on campus such as $4 dollar movie nights, talent shows, and hilarious improvisation team performances. These events would be a great way to meet new people and entertain myself without spending a lot of money. • Interesting Fact: UCSB currently has 5 staff members that won the Nobel Peace Prize. This is proof that I would most likely have great professors at this University. • Mascot/Colors: UC Santa Barbara’s mascot is the Gauchos. I’m actually not entirely sure I even know what a Gaucho is. The colors are blue and gold, which reminds me of Clovis High.

  9. Reflective Paragraph After conducting research on UCSB, TCU, and Clemson, I have decided that the school I would most desire to attend if accepted would be Clemson for many reasons. First of all, when I took a tour of the campus I fell in love with it and all of the impressive features it contains. My SAT and GPA are both about right for this school. Graphic communications is a popular major at CU and I think I would really enjoy it because I love getting creative. Also, my second choice of TCU is very expensive and although Clemson is pricey too, it wouldn’t be as hard on my family. Having to fly on an airplane just to see my parents sounds miserable to me, and I would much rather be able to hop on the highway and see them in under and hour. The different resources and opportunities that Clemson has to offer draw me to the school and make me extremely excited to be a CU Tiger! Now I just have to get in...
