2. NLA is an acronym for No longer allowed. This list of mistakes is composed of words that are often confused or misspelled. • In the following slides, you will have sentences with NLA’s which you have to correct and explain why they are incorrect.

Arborealanimals, such as gorillas and monkeys, where the funniest part of our trip to the zoo. • Here the where is incorrectly used because where refers to a place, instead it should be were. • 2. The tree finally began to burgeon in the spring after loosing all of it’s leaves in December. • Here the loosing and it’s are incorrect because there should only be one “o” in loosing because it’s from the verb “to lose” and the it’s should not have an apostrophe between the “t” and the “s” because it is possessive and not a contraction.

Its always been my dream to jump into a big pile of leaves shed by a deciduous tree. • Here, there should be an apostrophe between the “t” and the “s” because it is the conjunction of “it” and “is.” • 4. Tiffany looked forward to studying Puerto Rican culture and therefauna, especially the colorful birds. • Here the there should be replaced by their because it’s referring to the fauna that belongs to Puerto Rico.

The flora in that area consists of strange, dry looking plants because it's an area were it rains very little. • Here the were is incorrect because it’s referring to a place so it should be where. • 6. You're plant, whose seed's shell has already broken, is germinating faster than mine. • Here the You’re is incorrect because it should be the possessive pronoun your not the conjunction of you are.

Because she'd always loved plants and gardening, Bethany wanted to study horticulture much more then law, which her father wanted her to study. • Here then should be replaced by than which refers to quantity. • 8. To much lichen had grown on the rock, for I could barely see the blue-gray through the mossy green. • Here the To should be replaced by too because to means for someone.

When the environmental activists found out the goverment decided to turn the beautiful, sylvan park into an animal testing lab, they fought to save the trees and the animals. • Here government is misspelled because it has an “n” after the “r”. • 10. As me and Eliza walked through the verdant path, we realized how much we loved the color green. • Here me and Eliza is wrong because the correct for to write it is Eliza and I.
