  2. A REVIEW OF RECOUNTS • A recount is a piece of writing that retells something that happened in the past • All of the events must go in order from beginning to end • In your recount you must answer the questions (who? what? when? where? why?) • Recounts are non-fiction

  3. RECOUNT PLANNER TITLE The title should be interesting and catchy and give the reader an idea of what the recount is about. You must use capitals! ORIENTATION In 1 or 2 sentences answer the questions: Who? What? When? Where? Why? In 1-2 paragraphs, tell the reader what happened. Make that your events are in order. Use your step words and make sure that you use descriptive words. SEQUENCE OF EVENTS In 1-2 sentences, describe your feelings about the events PERSONAL COMMENT

RECOUNT PLANNER SAMPLE TITLE My Trip to Mexico ORIENTATION When I was 21 years old , my parents and I went on a trip to Mexico to celebrate my 21st birthday. • Went to the airport, 4 hour flight • Got to hotel, nice room • Went to beaches, Snorkelling saw sting ray • Great food • Dancing at night • Went home SEQUENCE OF EVENTS PERSONAL COMMENT • Had a wonderful trip • Had a lot of fun • Sad to leave the beautiful beaches but happy to be back in Canada

  5. Recount Writing: Rough Copy When you are writing your rough copy skip lines! Editing: 1st Edit your rough copy yourself using a red pen. 2ndCome see Miss Humes. She will edit for you and give you a few tips for writing an excellent recount.

  6. Editing Rules... Remember that you are checking for... • Capitals in the title, the beginning of sentences and for all proper nouns • Spelling – do your best, check the dictionary, use your “Have-a-Go pad” etc. • Is it in the past tense e.g. Had instead of have • Does it go in order from beginning to end (First, then, next, after that)? • Does it use interesting words (adjectives)? • Does it make sense?
