  2. The only way to increase student achievement as measured by the Aspire/ ACT is to change instructional practice.

  3. Five elements of quality instruction are:

  4. 1. Teach to mastery of standards. Teachers need a thorough understanding of CCR standards and CFA development process.

  5. 2. Use of the Cycle of Instruction, focusing on student engagement, and facilitated, guided and independent practice, facing an application of problem solving. It is critical that all steps in the Cycle of Instruction are implemented during each lesson. Teachers will decide how much or how little time to dedicate to each step in the Cycle of Instruction. Time allocation should change for each lesson.

  6. 3. Teacher facilitation of learning must include quality questioning to ensure high levels of student achievement.

  7. 4. Focus on collaborative problem solving and real world solutions. This must be fully implemented to increase student achievement.
