  1. Imagine… watching your healthy, happy baby slipping away from you; with little or no explanation of why it’s happening …

  2. Autism Every sixteen minutes, a child in the United States is diagnosed with autism.

  3. This means that as many as 1.5 million Americans today are believed to have some form of autism.

  4. That number is on the rise. Based on statistics from the U.S. Department of Education and other governmental agencies, autism is growing at a rate of 17-20 percent per year.

  5. At these rates, the prevalence of autism could reach 4 million Americans within the next decade.

  6. The overall incidence of autism is four times more prevalent in boys than girls. Scientist believe the explanation for this lies in a link between testosterone levels and its reaction with mercury.

  7. Autism crosses all racial, ethnic, and social boundaries. Therefore, family income, lifestyles, nor educational level can prevent the chance of having autism.

  8. The current analogy in the autistic community is that autism is a puzzle to which we do not have all the pieces. Our children are also like the pieces of a puzzle which need to be connected together again to make a fully integrated, unified child.

  9. 3 months Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life. 6 months 15 months 3 years 2 years

  10. Autism is the result of a neurological disorder that affects the functioning of the brain.

  11. It is a severe developmental disorder in which children seem isolated from the world around them.

  12. Autism is marked by poor hearing, language and vision skills, an inability to handle social situations and behavioral problems. More specifically, autistic children may exhibit hand flapping, turning in circles, along with extreme sensitivity to sounds, lights, tastes and textures.

  13. Children with autism suffer from many physical illnesses, including bladder and bowel conditions, ear infections, severe sinus infections, insomnia, multiple allergies and asthma.

  14. Many causes have been identified for autism. Both genetic and environmental factors are being studied as possible factors.

  15. It has been proposed that the combined measles, mumps and rubella vaccine (MMR), genetics, as well as Heavy Metal Toxicity (such as mercury exposure in early childhood through vaccinations) are the major culprits of autism.

  16. On February 9, 2004 - The Institute of Medicine held a meeting to review research that has been found, which links thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative in vaccines, and neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism.

  17. The Institute of Medicine used data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Vaccine Datalink, which concluded that children who are given three (3)thimerosal-containing vaccines are 27 times more likely to develop autism than children who receive thimerosol-free vaccines. *Josiah has received five (5)thimerosal-based vaccinations.

  18. Most treatments for autism are not covered by insurance. However, children who are diagnosed in the first 3 years of life can fully recover with treatment.

  19. Treatments range from giving prescribed medicine such as tranquilizers, antipsycotic drugs, ritalin and prozac, as well as natural medicine such as omega 3, cod liver oil, mega vitamins, Kid’s Calm, ambrotose and chelation products to remove the mercury and other toxins.

  20. Therapeutic treatments include: • Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) • Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBS) • Parent training
