Center • Nature Discovery - • A reminder that this is part of the curriculum and not just a field trip. It also contains a lab component. • Comprehension Instructional Sequence Module - • Training for Middle School Science has been completed! • Chemical Storage Rooms – • What do you know about the most dangerous room in your school?   6. History Fair intent to participate forms are due Dec. 8. They will be emailed to you and to school coordinator soon. • Textbook adoption process will begin in early 2012. It will most likely be done after school and we will be requesting teachers to serve on the committee. We will probably be looking at both standard texts and digital alternatives. • CISM should have been implemented in all social studies classrooms by now. There is a refresher November 8 for social studies teachers who desire it (5:00-7:30) at Jim Miles, and an all-day session December 2, for new hires in social studies, reading and science or teachers in those areas who did not have the training. • US History EOC will be field-tested by state selected students in the spring. Upcoming Events: • World Languages Hispanic Heritage Month – Huge Success! • Hispanic Festival at Barnett Park , Lake Mirror, Lakeland on Saturday, October 22, 12:00 to 8:00 pm • CISM (Comprehension Instructional Sequence Module) PD will begin for World Language Teachers in January . • Welcome to Common Core and Next Generation World Language Standards • To provide assessments for subject areas not tested by FCAT or EOC exams, Race-to-the-Top grants have been awarded to Duval (World Languages), Miami-Dade, Hillsborough, and Polk . • The World Languages project, Project Proficere, begins November 7-8, 2011 at a face-to-face meeting in Jacksonville. • They will begin to develop item specifications and at later dates write test items for the five world languages of French, German, Italian, Latin, and American Sign Language. • Visit the Polk County World Languages web page for course descriptions, curriculum maps, and numerous resources • www.polk-fl.net/staff/teachers/worldlanguages.htm Secondary world languages
