Legislative Implications on Math Requirements for this 2011-12 SY Algebra 1 EOC – students in G9 and middle school must score Achievement Level 3-5 Geometry EOC – 30% of final grade, based on Quality Points Legislative Implications on Math Requirements for 2012-13 and beyond For the cohort of students who enter grade nine in 2012–2013 or after, the math requirements for a standard high school diploma are as follows: One credit earned by passing the Algebra 1 EOC Assessment One credit earned by passing the Geometry EOC Assessment One credit in Algebra 2 or Algebra 2 Honors One additional mathematics credit Recommended Resources to Enhance Understanding of Math Polk County District Math Website Khan Academy videos NCTM Illuminations lessons and activities National Library of Virtual Manipulatives Learn360 videos Compass Odyssey Algebra 1 Student Support Learning Path Additional resources are available in Public Folders under “Curriculum & Instruction K-12”, “Mathematics, 6-12”.   4. CISM: Comprehension Instructional Sequence Module training begins for reading teachers this month. CAR-PD district-certified teachers must be used for fluent AL 2 students . One-day CISM trained teachers ARE NOT qualified for this student placement. Intensive Reading Waiver Memo and Document with Form and ASP are posted in Public Folders – Reading, 6-12 – Mandates for Reading. Course progressions & State mandates • The Biology EOC is based upon the Biology I standards . • 2012-2013 will be the first freshman cohort that will be required to pass the EOC as part of their graduation requirements. • 2011-2012, will be the first freshman cohort required to pass the Biology course for graduation and have it count for 30% of students grades (not a big change for us as we already required Biology). • Next year, Physical Science will be gone in High School • Next year, Earth Science is back in Middle School • Science Fair • School Directors Meeting – September 15th @ Polk’s Nature Discovery Center (5 -7:30PM). County World Languages Updates: All Levels 1- 2 for All languages will tested 2012, 10% of their grade (according to WL standards) Window April 30th - May 18th • New Florida Next Generation World Languages Standards: • http://www.fldoe.org/aala/pdf/2011WorldLanguagesStandards.pdf • All World Languages Curriculum Maps are expected to be followed. • World Languages Writing Summaries– expect at least 1 sample per 9 weeks from 5 students in every classroom. • Foreign Exchange Sponsoring Organizations and Representative Approval for 2011-2012 see World Languages Web Page.
