  4. Summit Training Review “Taking His Heart To The Harvest”

  5. There are four areas to our Training Strategy…

  6. 1. Evaluation • Where are you presently? • Where do you want to go? • How will you get there?

  7. 2. Motivation • How do we get people to move beyond the “four walls” of our churches? • How can we get more people involved in the process of evangelism?

  8. 3. Assimilation • How do we get ready for “company”? • What are some ways to open the front door and close the back door and move people on into discipleship?

  9. 4. Evangelization • What are some strategies and models for practical evangelism? • What are some practical ways to get people involved in doing evangelism in the local church?

  10. Some Questions to Ask • Who are we helping? • How are we helping people to hear the good news? • How are we helping people make decisions for Christ?

  11. Definition of Evangelism “Evangelism is the process of communicating the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a way that leads to a personal relationship with Jesus that produces spiritual life and leads to discipleship”

  12. It is important to understand that Evangelism is a PROCESS!

  13. 1. Presence Evangelism 1. AN ONLOOKER2. Proclamation Evangelism2. A HEARER 3. Persuasion Evangelism3. A BELIEVER4. Progression Evangelism 4. A LEARNER 5. Production Evangelism5. A DISCIPLER

  14. FROM ONLOOKER TO HEARER TO BELIEVER TO LEARNER TO DISCIPLER EVANGELISM

  15. Evangelism Is A Process! • There is never “one easy step”! • Disciples are made through the process of time! • People must often be moved from very “negative” or “hostile” positions to a place where they are open and receptive to Christ!

  16. Evangelism Process Scale _____________________________ -4 -3 -2 -1 0 +1 +2 +3 +4 Movement from Negative to Positive

  17. The Steps Of Evangelism • Our task is to begin where people are. • We must be patient to take them through the process until we reach the desired result. • It may require that we use different methods and models.

  18. First Session:Presence Evangelism

  19. Presence Evangelism • Definition: “The process through which unchurched people are initially contacted so that they may sense the warmth and acceptance of Christianity.”

  20. Presence Evangelism • Free pressures to: • Conform • Immediately align themselves with the group’s identity • The question to be asked here is, “Who are we helping?”

  21. Our Task • To be the extension of Jesus’ hands into our community! • Matthew 25:3-36: “…I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; I was naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me…”

  22. An Evangelism Story • The villagers were aware of the needs of the drowning boy. • The villagers were willing to jump into the water to help the boy. • Are we willing to “jump into the waters” of our community? • The villagers were pulling the boy to safety.

  23. Lessons from the Early Church • It was present in the normal network of society. • They were present to meet the physical needs of people. • They were present in the spiritual battle for people’s souls.

  24. A Rule Of Thumb • You need at least three ministries which establish a “presence” among the unchurched in your community.

  25. Models/Strategies • Crises Ministry Evangelism • Media Evangelism • Servant Evangelism

  26. Second Session:Proclamation Evangelism

  27. 1. Presence Evangelism 1. AN ONLOOKER2. Proclamation Evangelism2. A HEARER 3. Persuasion Evangelism3. A BELIEVER4. Progression Evangelism 4. A LEARNER 5. Production Evangelism5. A DISCIPLER

  28. FROM ONLOOKER TO HEARER TO BELIEVER TO LEARNER TO DISCIPLER EVANGELISM

  29. Proclamation Evangelism • Definition: The creation of situations where people are told about Jesus and invited to accept Him. • The question here is, “How are we helping people to hear the good news?”

  30. People are waiting for: • Someone to offer a warm, genuine invitation to the fellowship of your church. • Someone to share their faith in an enthusiastic way and simply challenge them to consider Christ.

  31. Two Reasons Churches Have Been Ineffective • They’ve lost touch with the unchurched. • They confuse being a “witness” with being an “evangelist”

  32. Ways to accomplish “Proclamation Evangelism” • Relationship Evangelism

  33. Effective Evangelism Requires RelationshipStatistics From The Barna Group

  34. Ways to accomplish “Proclamation Evangelism” • Relationship Evangelism a. To plant seeds b. Face to Face Interaction c. Proclaim the gospel in the context of personal interests.

  35. Ways to accomplish “Proclamation Evangelism” • Event Evangelism a. Important to present the gospel in some form. b. Important to “Bridge” the gap. c. Learn to “connect” to the lost world.

  36. Ways to accomplish “Proclamation Evangelism” • Revival and Crusade Evangelism a. Mass Evangelism b. Revivals and Crusades

  37. Remember… • The local church should use every occasion possible to “proclaim” the good news of the gospel. • Every church should be actively involved in proclamation evangelism.

  38. Third Session:Persuasion Evangelism

  39. 1. Presence Evangelism 1. AN ONLOOKER2. Proclamation Evangelism2. A HEARER 3. Persuasion Evangelism3. A BELIEVER4. Progression Evangelism 4. A LEARNER 5. Production Evangelism5. A DISCIPLER

  40. FROM ONLOOKER TO HEARER TO BELIEVER TO LEARNER TO DISCIPLER EVANGELISM

  41. Persuasion Evangelism • Definition: The act of persuading individuals to accept Jesus as Savior. • The question here is, “How are we helping people make decisions for Christ?”

  42. Example: Hurricane Katrina • The terrible circumstances were felt by many. • The sad aftermath and devastation was huge. • The painful reality: There was sufficient warning. • Procrastination and complacency took their toll!

  43. We face a similar situation! • Procrastination and complacency effect the church as well! • Fewer than 10% of all Christians actively witness to others!

  44. Persuasion involves • Training people to share their faith. • Always looking for opportunities to share our faith. • Using a variety of programs and methods designed to win people to Christ.

  45. 3 Models of Persuasion • Personal Evangelism • Equipping Evangelism • Opportunity Evangelism

  46. Personal Evangelism • This is where people can personally get involved. • We are ALL called to be His witnesses. • We ALL have a testimony to share.

  47. Ways of doing personal evangelism • Prayer. • Know your testimony and learn a few Scriptures to go with it. • Ask God to open the doors that need to be open.

  48. Examples of personal evangelism • Visiting in homes. • Sharing with your neighbors. • Praying and sharing with people at the altar. • Sharing with co-workers. • Sharing with family members.

  49. Equipping Evangelism • This is where the church must train and equip its people to do this type of Evangelism.
