  • We’ll be using the Spectrophotometer to “read” the amount of light that is absorbed by the color present in the solutions.
  • Complete Part 1 (page 28) and Part 3 (page 30) after reading the above pages.

Conc = volume of substance x 100

Soln #1: 1ml food color x 100 = 10%

Soln #2: 1mL Soln #1 x 10 = 1.0%

Soln #3: 1mL Soln #2 x 1.0 = 0.10%

Concentration in PPM = Conc. X 1,000,000

SO: (convert %ages to decimals)

PPM = 0.10 x 1,000,000 = 100,000 ppm
