Matthew 1:1-17 The Genealogy of Jesus the Messiah 1This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham: 2 Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, 3 Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar, Perez the father of Hezron, Hezron the father of Ram, 4 Ram the father of Amminadab, Amminadab the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon,

  2. 5 Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse, 6 and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife, 7 Solomon the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asa, 8 Asa the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram, Jehoram the father of Uzziah, 9 Uzziah the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, Ahaz the father of Hezekiah,

  3. 10 Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, Amon the father of Josiah, 11 and Josiah the father of Jeconiah[c] and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon. 12After the exile to Babylon: Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, 13 Zerubbabel the father of Abihud, Abihud the father of Eliakim, Eliakim the father of Azor,

  4. 14 Azor the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Akim, Akim the father of Elihud, 15 Elihud the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, Matthan the father of Jacob, 16and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah.

  5. BIG PICTURE OF THE ADVENT JOURNEY The Bible is about a Seed that travels 4,000 years, covering 64 generations. The Bible unfolds the family history of Jesus. We start in Eden with Adam, and work our way forward… to Bethlehem.

GEN 3:15 AMP “And I will put enmity (open hostility) Between you and the woman, And between your seed (offspring) and her Seed; He shall [fatally] bruise your head, And you shall [only] bruise His heel.” NASB And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.”

Genesis 3:15 The Message 14-15 God told the serpent: “Because you’ve done this, you’re cursed,    cursed beyond all cattle and wild animals,Cursed to slink on your belly    and eat dirt all your life.I’m declaring war between you and the Woman,    between your offspring and hers.He’ll wound your head,    you’ll wound his heel.”

  8. Genesis 4:5-7  5 ….Cain was very angry, and his face fell. 6 The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is contrary to you, but you must rule over it.”

Genesis 6:5-7 5 The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. 6 The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. 7 So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.”

Genesis 12:1-3 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. 2 “I will make you into a great nation,    and I will bless you;I will make your name great,    and you will be a blessing.3 I will bless those who bless you,    and whoever curses you I will curse;and all peoples on earth    will be blessed through you.”

  12. Genesis 12:7 Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your descendants.” KJV And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land.

  13. ABRAHAM – A LEGENDARY CHARACTER Very few men had the personal favour and attention from God like Abraham. He had visits from angels, conversations with God and gigantic favour and tests. He had a unique pedigree and was a true father.

  14. Genesis 49:10 10The scepter(royalty) will not depart from Judah,nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet (from his descendants) until he to whom it belongs shall comeand the obedience of the nations shall be his.

  15. For the next 2000 years Biblical history would be focused primarily on Canaan (Egypt at times). What little town was located in the heart of Canaan? Bethlehem!

  17. 2 Samuel 7:16 “Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.’”

Hebrews 11:3-6 5 By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.”[a] For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
