Goal 2: The learner will obtain the skills needed to exhibit skills associated with providing simple first aid and obtaining medical treatment when needed 2.13 Identify various community sources of medical and emotional care and the services that can be obtained from agencies such as: Health Dept., Medicaid Clinic, Hospitals, Family Medical Practice, Crisis Clinic, and Mental Health Clinic 2.14-2.21 and 3.06 (many, many lessons worth)

It is paid for by taxes Hospital ( pg 378-382) A facility that is equipped to provided health care services for all kinds of sicknesses and illness both in and out patient. Family Medical practice – A single doctor or a group of doctors that treat patients for non life threatening health problems as well as health check ups. Crises Clinic – A place for people to go to 24 hours a day if they have a personal crisis Ex. The Relatives Mental Health Clinic (pg 52-66) – A place that deals with a wide range of behaviors. Examples: severe anxiety, phobias, substance abuse depression, eating disorders

You have had a cold for 2 weeks and now you have a fever Your mother has a severe pain in her chest. Your cousin has run away from home and you want to find a place to help him A neighbor has just moved in and they have no insurance. Where could they go to get medical help?

Medical History Read and discuss pg 35 and 208 2:18 Objective: Describe why it is important to consider one’s family medical history when making personalized plans for preventative health measures. Have students research via the internet specific inherited diseases and report to the class what they learned. Homework: Complete a questionnaire with parents’ help of family diseases

    10. Insurance 2:16 Objective: State the importance of insurance and identify various sources for obtaining health, medical, and dental insurance. Page 385 for Medicare and Medicaid information. talk with student to assess their knowledge of health insurance contact an insurance company and see if a guest speaker could be provided walk the students through insurance procedures: insurance provided by workplace or may carry privately card issued paid for each month or paycheck at doctors appt. insurance info is provided at reception desk copy of card made co-payment or no payment is paid bill from doctor goes to insurance co. insurance company pays all or part of the bill you receive a statement saying the bill was paid and how much you may owe if anything.
