  2. Career Ladder • Technician I • Graduation from an accredited American Veterinary Medical Association program for veterinary technology and/or met requirements for certification in the State of Florida; or a high school degree and two years of veterinary work experience.

  3. Career Ladder Benchmarks • Technician II • Graduation from an accredited AVMA program for veterinary technology and/or met requirements for certification in the State of Florida; or a high school degree and four years of veterinary work experience. • Minimum of two years experience in academic environment or equivalent education and practical experience. • Documented 20 hours relevant CE within the last two years.

  4. Technician III Graduation from an accredited AVMA program for veterinary technology and/or met requirements for certification in the State of Florida; or a high school degree and four years of veterinary work experience. Minimum of four years experience in academic environment or equivalent of eight years education and experience in private practice. Documented completion of 40 hours relevant CE within the last two years. Documented completion of 8 hours of relevant CE in human resources or supervising skills within last two years. Successful Completion of Advanced Skills Mastery List. Publication and/or invited speaking engagements, and/or presentations in veterinary technical topics. Career Ladder Benchmarks

Career Ladder Benchmarks • Technician IV • Graduation from an accredited AVMA program for veterinary technology and/or met requirements for certification in the State of Florida; • Minimum of 5 years practical experience in academic environment or equivalent of 8 years education and practical experience in private practice. • Documented completion of 60 hours relevant CE within the last three years. • Documented completion of 16 hours of relevant CE in human resources or supervising skills within last two years • Demonstrated ability to explain, instruct and train students and staff in various operations without supervision. • Demonstrated skills in time sheets and medical record management and scheduling. • Successful Completion of Advanced Skills Mastery List. • Publication and/or invited speaking engagements, and/or presentations in veterinary technical topics.

TCL Process • Packets due December 9, 2005, by 5 PM • Turn in to Sheri Holloway or Mr. McKeever • TCL Committee scores packets • scores are averaged • TCL Committee members • SA Assistant Hospital Director, LA Assistant Hospital Director, SA Nursing Coordinator, 2 LA Faculty members, 2 SA Faculty members

  7. The Advancement Packet must contain all of the following in order to be considered: All forms completed and signed by the employee and the employee’s supervisor. Verification of highest level of education obtained (if applicable).* Verification of license or certifications obtained (if applicable).* Verification of Continuing Education hours obtained.* Verification of any Honors or Awards listed (if applicable).* Verification of all publications or presentations (if applicable).* Copy of the Veterinary Technical Competencies Lists * Copy of latest Employee Performance Evaluation.* Two Letters of Support * Any additional pertinent documentation. * Indicates required documentation

Scoring Outline (150 pts) • College Education (maximum 10 pts) • License & Registration (maximum 10 pts) • Specialty Certifications (maximum 6 pts) • Veterinary Technician Experience (maximum 30 pts) • Continuing Education (maximum 6 pts) • Technical Skills Mastery List (maximum 30 pts) • Annual Evaluation (maximum 10 pts) • Letters of Recommendation (maximum 6 pts) • Assistant Administrators Assessment (maximum 6 pts) • Other Categories (Summary Statement, Additional Activities, Honors/Awards, Presentations, Publications) (maximum 36 pts)

  9. I. Education* • Requires an Associate Degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science or a related area. • Two years of relevant experience may substitute for each year of education. • Any Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. • Prefer Certification as a Veterinary Technician. • School / Program • Location • Hours Complete • Major / Degree

Veterinary Technical Competencies List Cont.* • Demonstrated ability:Adequate knowledge and proper technique to supervisor • Mastery:Consistently and proficiently performs the task in the normal function of job • Student teaching: Routinely instructs task and associated techniques to veterinary students • Formal presentation: Official technical presentation sanctioned by the office of CE and providing CE credits to the attendees • Awarded highest score: not accumulative • Who can initial?

  21. XII. Publications* • Please list all published articles, book chapters, books, published proceedings, etc. • Title • Publication • Date published • Verification required • Examples: • Veterinary Technician Magazine • Proceedings/Publications (ACVIM, JAVMA, Compendium, etc.)

  22. XIII. Letters of Recommendation* • Requires two letters of reference. • Letters can be from CVM faculty, staff, or students. • Letters must be in a sealed envelope signed across the seal by the person writing the reference and must be turned in with the Advancement Packet. • Only 2 references will be accepted.

  23. XIV. Summary Statement • This statement will be allocated points. • Please expand on any portion of the Advancement Packet and/or discuss other accomplishments since you have been employed with UFVMC that you feel would be pertinent to advancement. • Discuss your professional career goals.

  24. Review and Notification • TCL Committee review • Submit recommendations • Hospital Board • Implement in January
