  1. Welcome to Mrs. Popa’sClass Open House Wild About Kindergarten

  2. Meet the Teacher I am a graduate of Purdue University. This will be my 9th year teaching in the Lake Central School Corporation. I am married to my wonderful husband, Tre, and we have a son, Trevor who just turned 2 in July. We also have a golden retriever named Sammie. I am also a Protsman Alumni!

  3. Classroom Rules • Follow directions quickly • Listen when your teacher is talking • Respect others, respect yourself, respect your school • Raise your hand to speak or stand • Be safe, be honest

  4. Behavior Management • Stop Light System-Behavior Chart • Green or White: “I had a good day!” • Yellow: “I received a warning.” • Red: “I did not have a good day!” • *When you see a yellow or red on behavior chart please sign your name or initial. • Treasure Chest- Students will be rewarded tickets throughout the weeks for good behavior and a chance to visit our classroom treasure chest.

  5. Reading • This year in reading we will learn: • Identifying beginning, middle, and ending sounds then blending these sounds to form a word • Recognizing rhyming and syllables • Tracking text, identifying parts of a book, understanding comprehension skills • Reading common frequency sight words

  6. Math • This year in math we will learn: • Sorting and classifying • Graphing and measuring • Composing and decomposing numbers to 20 • Counting and comparing numbers to 100 • Addition and Subtraction

  7. Writing • This year in writing we will learn to: • Print capital and lowercase letters • Write moving left to right/top to bottom • Spell simple words • Produce simple sentences using capitalization and punctuation

  8. Science • This year in science we will learn • Ask questions and make observations • Identify nature and human made materials • Identify properties and change in matter • Seasons and weather

  9. Social Studies Type Here: • This year in social studies we will learn: • People of the past and present • Places in a community and helpers • Rules and Citizenship • Ways to live by staying safe

  10. Specials Type Here: Students will attend five special classes each week. Our schedule is as follows: Monday – Technology Tuesday – P.E. Wednesday – Music Thursday – Art Friday - Library

  11. Type Here: Snacks and Birthday Treats Snack: We highly encourage that you send in a healthy snack for your child. When packing a snack please make sure you label it snack if you are also sending in a packed lunch. Also, please send in something your child can easily open. When sending in fruit cups be sure to include a spoon. Birthday Treat: Again it is encouraged that you send in healthy treats. They should be individually packaged.

  12. Parent Involvement Type Here: • We are always in need of donations, visit our “Bee kind board!” • Chaperones for field trips (T.B.A) • HSA – room parties, popcorn helpers, HSA events (all parent volunteers must have a criminal background check on file). • 1st HSA Meeting – Aug. 29 @ 3:00pm

  14. Homework Type Here: Kindergarten homework will consist of a leveled independent reader, student readers, math enrichment, and reviewing sight words. Please sign homework sheet every night and return back to school the following day. Please Leave Homework Sheet and Behavior Chart in Nicky Folder.

Before You Leave Type Here: • Turn in any student supplies • Turn in “Special Boy or Girl” paper • Choose a “bee” to donate to our class. • Reminder to turn in “Student of the week” posters as soon as possible. • Any forms you have completed please leave at your child’s seat or return by August 16th • Please be sure to sign up to receive our classroom newsletter if you do not have access to the internet! • MAKE SURE TO TURN IN DISMISSAL FORM TONIGHT!
