Occupational Health – What Is It? ‘Occupational health’ is a medical speciality, which focuses on the interaction of people's health with their work Or how work affects your health and health may affect your work. Occupational Health provides Independent, impartial and expert advice to support people in their work, and to assist employers support health at work for all employees

  5. When to refer? • Concerns about employee fitness for their role • Employee absent for 4 weeks or more • Concerns about an employee health at work • Absence due to perceived work related stress • No need to refer for: • Short term absence upon returning to work and not experiencing any health issues affecting work • Need for IT equipment, alteration to shift work or break patterns • Fitness to attend a formal meeting, even if an employee is off work - assume they are fit unless evidence to the contrary

  6. How to refer someone to Occupational Health • OHP on site every fortnight • 2nd & 4th Tuesday each month: 10am – 1pm • Manager refers employee via OH Referral Form • Complete the Laya OH referral form found in the Occupational Health Tab on the Sky Wellbeing web site: • This form will be moved to the OH for Ireland web site once this has been built • Do not use the Sky OH referral form found on the People Portal as this will go to the UK Sky OH team.

  7. Referral Journey to Occupational Health • 4. Email the completed form to Laya OH and copy HR: • Click ‘Submit ‘ on form to reach dedicated OH email: casemanagement@layahealthcare.ie and cc occupationalhealthROI@bskyb.com • 5. OH Referral form: Delete post sending or save as ‘secret information’ • 6. Employee invited to OHP review assessment via outlook • Manger cc in the meeting invite, but no need to attend • 7. Allocated 30 min consultation – time is key!

  8. Occupational Health Reports • OHP Reporting: • Report to manager and cc employee & HR on day of • Information on relevant condition and how it impacts at work/attending work • Recommendations for manger to consider • Fit/Unfit/Restrictions to work/Phased return to work • Email (Confidentiality) • Meeting with HR/Follow up call

  9. Examples of Referrals to the OHP • Muscular-skeletal disorders • Newly diagnosed medical conditions e.g. MS • Stress (work and non work related) • Team members with high levels of absence
