Enhancing Water Safety Testing Regulations for POE Systems

This proposal suggests revising the existing mandate for 2L minimum sample testing in Point of Entry (POE) systems to align with NSF/ANSI 61 standards. The current requirement, derived from material safety tests in DWTU standards, evaluates POEs with only one water chemistry. The proposal recommends assessing POEs with three different water chemistries (pH 5, 10, and 8) to enhance accuracy. By removing the mandated 2L minimum, unnecessary sampling burdens can be reduced. 4. 2L Sample Mandate for POEs Tab 8: DWA-61-2013-11 • Originated from material safety test in DWTU standards • DWTU standards only use 1 test water chemistry • POEs now evaluated under NSF/ANSI 61 and are evaluated to three different waters (pH 5, 10, and 8)

  5. 2L Sample Mandate for POEs Tab 8: DWA-61-2013-10 • Originated from material safety test in DWTU standards • DWTU standards only use 1 test water chemistry • POEs now evaluated under NSF/ANSI 61 and are evaluated to three different waters (pH 5, pH 10, and pH 8) • Means a mandate of three times as many samples under NSF/ANSI 61 which may not be needed for analytical reasons.
