Society • Like the United States, Canada is comprised of immigrants, eh • Native Americans (indigenous and the “First Nations”), eh • The Inuit people obtained self-governance in 1999, eh • French immigrants (first major colonists), eh • English immigrants (later colonists), eh • Europeans comprise about half of the total population, eh • Mostly in Ontario, the Atlantic Provinces, and British Columbia, eh • Canada is bilingual (French and English), eh • Although English is the unifying language, eh Eh! Hey! Eh! Oui! Hey! Oui! Hey! Eh! Oui! Hey! Eh!

Culture • Contemporary Canadian art represents • Native American and European influences • Canadian cuisine represents • Regional dishes • Seafood along the Atlantic coast • French cuisine around Quebec • Italian in Ontario as well as Eastern European (immigrants) • Salmon and Asian in British Columbia • Canadian enthusiasm for hockey

  4. Religion • Canada has no official religion • But it supports freedom of religion • Due to immigration primarily from Europe • Canada is mostly Christian • French Catholicism • English Protestantism
