  1. ROBOTICS IN THE CLASSROOM

  2. GOALS AND OBJECTIVE • Establish girls robotics club • Develop higher level Robotics (Robolab) • Communicate requirements and club activities • Use RCX and TI73 calculators to engage student learning • Establish team competition • Involve Others

  3. Establish Diverse Robotic Participation • Data on Girls 3-5% choose to enter the engineering field. • Goal improve Coronado girls participation from 1% to 5%. • Increase Hispanic and Asian representation from 0 to 3%

  4. HOW TO CHANGE THE STATS! • Demonstrate robotic designs and allow student-demos. • Advertise & recruit students to join robotics club. • Establish boys and girls robotics club. • Serve Snacks! Have Fun!

  5. Strategies for returning students! • Introduce Robolab • Start a summer league. • Establish an independent/ consulting environment.

  6. Classroom Implementation • Use “SumoBot” demonstrations to represent Newton’s Second Law of Motion. • Demonstrate Newton’s Third Law of Motion by constructing two robots of unequal size. • Use a catapult and distance sensor to determine distance of a marshmallow.

  7. Classroom Implementation • Use termisters, RCX brick and classroom thermometers to determine various temperatures. • Allow students to use Microsoft excel to construct charts and graph trend-line.

  8. Club Implementations • Boys - introduce Robolab • Girls - introduce RIS • Establish inter-team and cross-team competitions • Establish competitions with Central Middle School and Blue Valley School (before Open House). • Establish Fund Raising Activities

  9. Help! Seek assistance of: • K-State • Parents • School Administration • Other colleagues

  10. The Ultimate Goal • Increase total student interest in engineering by 5% via robotics. • Introduce students to a senior college environment. • Develop Scientific Inquiry! • Learn while having Fun! • JUST DO IT!
