  12. World War I On April 6, 1917, the United States formally declared war against Germany and entered the conflict in Europe. Fighting since the summer of 1914, Britain, France, and Russia welcomed news that American troops and supplies would be directed toward the Allied war effort. Under the command of Major General John J. Pershing, over two million U.S. troops fought on battlefields in France.

  13. World War II The 7 December 1941 Japanese raid on Pearl Harbor was one of the great defining moments in history. America joined Second World War as a full combatant.

  16. Korean War The Korean War has often been referred to as the "forgotten war" because it came on the heels of World War II and was overshadowed by the Vietnam War. Korea like Vietnam, was part of the Cold War to stop the advancement of Communism in Southeast Asia. When the Communist troops of North Korea invaded the democratic Republic of South Korea, the United States became involved through a promise of support given to the president of South Korea.

  17. Vietnam War Beginning in 1957 and ending in 1975, the Vietnam War was America's longest war on foreign soil. Twenty-five years later, the Vietnam War era is a difficult and complicated subject, both emotionally and historically.

  18. Persian Gulf War On August 2nd, 1990 Iraqi military forces invaded and occupied the small Arab state of Kuwait. The order was given by Iraqi dictatorial president Saddam Hussein. President George Bush Sr. waited two days after the UN deadline for Iraqi withdrawal from Kuwait before ordering the Coalition to begin action against Iraq. The winds of Desert Storm began howling across Iraq on January 17, 1991, at 2.30 am Baghdad time.

  23. US LED WAR ON TERROR

  24. AFGHANISTAN On October 7, 2001, President Bush announced the first official U.S. and allied airstrikes on targets inside Afghanistan since the September 11 terrorist attacks. Local forces worked with the U.S.-led coalition in the air and on the ground in the subsequent weeks to unseat the ruling Taliban and smoke out al Qaeda. One year later, the central Asian nation has been transformed, as it tries to keep the peace and dig out from decades of war.

OPERATION – IRAQI FREEDOM With over 138,000 American soldiers currently stationed in Iraq, this year's National Memorial Day Concert pays special tribute to those who have been wounded in the war. Thankfully, modern medical techniques continue to improve the chances of survival for those injured in the line of duty.
