  2. Value • range of light and dark

  3. Shading • using light and dark values to make something look 3-D

  4. Chiaroscuro • means light dark

  5. Color • element of design with three properties, hue, value, and intensity

  6. Hue • identifies a color as in the spectrum

  7. Primary colors • red, yellow, and blue

  8. Secondary colors • orange, green, violet

  9. Intermediate colors • lies between the primary and secondary colors

  10. Complementary colors • hues directly opposite each other on the color wheel

  11. Intensity • describes the brightness and dullness of a color

  12. Triad • harmonies consist of three equidistant hues on the color wheel

  13. Split complementary colors • use of one hue and combine it with hues on either side of its complement

  14. Analogous colors • consist of adjacent hues on the color wheel

  15. Monochromatic • use tints and shades of only one color

  16. Neutrals • have no hue, black, white, and gray

  17. Warm colors • reds, oranges, and yellows

  18. Cool Colors • blues, greens, and violets
