Vocabulary #6 • 1. domicile – A person’s permanent • residence. • 2. double jeopardy – Trying a person twice for the same not guilty offense. This is a violation of the Constitution.
3. due process – The idea that every person accused of a crime is entitled to a fair trial with fair procedure. • 4. Durham Rule –If a person was mentally defective at the time of a crime then he/she cannot be held criminally responsible for their actions.
5. duress – Coercion , threats • 6. eighth amendment – “Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel or unusual punishment inflicted.” • 7. emancipate – To set free.

11. equal protection – The idea that the law should apply in the same way to all persons affected by it. • 12. equitable – Just ; Fair. • 13. Escobedo Rule – The right to have a lawyer present while being questioned by the police.
14. euthanasia – The act of painlessly putting to death a person suffering a painful and incurable disease. • 15. evidence – Facts that establish proof.
