  1. Friday April 26, 2013 Happy Friday!! Our learning objectives for today are to: *quickly review Final Assessment Assignment (raise your hand if you need one) *review components of a well developed essay *brainstorm ideas for possible arguments *begin drafting your assignment (complete first draft due Monday) Do Now- Quickly review Final Assessment assignment and list at least 5 things to keep in mind to ensure success.

  2. Introduction Paragraph: Here is a great opportunity to set the tone for your essay. Remember, you must include: 1. The complete title, author, and genre of the work you will be discussing 2. A strong thesis statement. This is the claim that you will prove in your essay. 3. A transition to the body paragraphs. What you do not want to do: 1. Write, "In this essay I will discuss...." Avoid first person pronouns - they weaken your argument. 2. Discuss specific plot. Save the evidence for the body paragraphs.

  3. First Body Paragraph This is where you will share one reason that will prove your thesis true. Our biggest struggle this year has been creating unified, cohesive paragraphs. Carefully create your topic sentence and then elaborate. Just remember to stay focused on your topic. Using evidence: Strong textual evidence is essential to a Literary Analysis Paper. Review your packets for passages we spent time annotating. These may be helpful. Also, do not drop the evidence and run! For each piece of evidence you use you must: Introduce it Cite it "My only love sprung from my only hate!/Too early seen unknown, and known too late" (I.iv. 154-155). Explain it

  4. I am a Writer! Believe it Now it's time to put the pen to the paper. This is a draft - it should be messy. Get your thoughts down. There will plenty of time to polish them. This is not the time to: 1. Complain about the assignment 2. Whine about life in general 3. Ask for help finding quotes 4. Ask "Does this sound okay?" 5. Ask "How do I start?" Just write....Remember first draft due Monday!

  5. Exit: What are some questions/concerns/perplexities/ states of insanity/ or any other stuff about this paper bothering you? Speak now or forever hold your piece...until Monday :)
