  1. Welcome to Mrs. Herrera’s 5th Grade Class!

  2. A little bit about Mrs. Herrera… • 10th year as a 5th grade teacher at Harrison • Subjects: ELA, Science and Social Studies • When your students go to Mrs. Aivars for Math, I teach her homeroom Social Studies • lherrera@livingston.org

  3. and Mrs. Piegari... • Taught for 4 years in New York City before moving to New Jersey. • Third year teaching upper elementary at Harrison • In-Class- Support teacher with your students for all subjects • mpiegari@livingston.org

  4. Co-teaching Model • Shared direct instruction • Mixed small group instruction • Additional support if needed for any students

What I expect of your children… • I expect you to come to school ready to work • I expect you to take responsibility for your education • I expect you to have a positive attitude and give your best effort, each and every day What I promise your children… • I promise I will challenge you, and give you the tools to meet those challenges • I promise to do everything I can to help you succeed • I promise that no matter what, I will never give up on you

Chrome Books • Compose writing pieces • Conduct research • Create digital presentations • Group work on shared documents • Access material and demonstrate understanding across content areas **Your student will frequently need access to the internetand printing at home. Please send a note/email if this is a problem!**

  8. Positive Reinforcement • Brownie Points • Whole class system • Once the baking tray is filled with brownies, the whole class is rewarded with a prize • Tickets • Individual • Tickets can be cashed in for a variety of prizes • Can never be taken away

  9. Getting ready for Middle School! • If students need to contact me after school, encourage them to send the email (if you allow this in your home) • Planning ahead for long-term projects and studying in advance • Organization • Homework/Take Home Board updated daily
