  1. Presentation of Creative Ideas

  2. Introduction For my assignment brief I was asked to do the cover, contents page and double spread of a music magazine. I will have to use a minimum of four original images that I am to take. This presentation will show you the three ideas that I have come up with.

  3. My first initial idea: is that I will create a music magazine that caters for Rock music. I would call it "Crash" which is easy to read for the audience and if combined with the right font and colour it would really stand out and represent the rock music that I am trying to convey as it is edgy and outgoing. This would be a magazine for everyone over the age of 12, both genders. The images would be rock related with the models holding instruments and doing poses such as the “thumbs up”. The magazine would be able to be bought from all shops that sell magazines such as WH Smith or a news agent. The double spread would include interviews or information that is rock related. Bands that would be covered could include: Gorillaz, Rolling Stones, Green Day.

  4. My second initial idea is a music magazine that covers all music genres fromheavy metal to grime. This would be the hardest magazine to do because I would have to make sure my images cover all the music that I am presenting in the magazine. Also I would have to find the right balance between the genres making sure I was not covering one in too much detail and another in not enough detail. The magazine would be for both genders and mostly for teenagers so people from ages of 13 or 14 years old. It would only be available to buy in book stores and new agents along other music magazine. I would call it “Rhythm”. This is an appropriate name for a music magazine and it does not relate to one type of music or songs. It is short so it attracts the readers attention. I would make it look simple, mainly focusing on the front image.

  5. My third initial idea is a R&B and Hip Hop magazinefor the age group 14 to 18 year olds. It would be mainly for girls as the artists featured in it would be mainly male. It would include artists such as Neyo, Chris Brown and Chipmunk. The double spread could then feature an exclusive detailed interview with the artist, about his life and his music. I would have to make sure my original images represent the magazine with taking images of older boys who are dressed in the right way. It would also help if my models are interested in that type of music because they know how to dress, talk, ect. All the major news agent would sell it and because it is for girls, it would always include either a coupon or special offers. I would call it “X Rated” because it sounds a little bit dangerous and it can be easily related to the male society in this type of music as they are always mysterious and unavailable.

  6. My final idea: I have chosen the magazine called “X Rated”, because I am more interested in this type of music myself so I can relate to what needs to be included. I have also more ideas for this magazine as I have already some clothes that my models can wear and ideas for the interview. My original images will have to relate to this topic so I have to make sure I take enough of them. I did not choose “Rhythm” because it was too general and I really wanted to specify on one type of genre. I wanted to spend my time researching music that I was already familiar with in order to prevent mistakes. Also when doing some research on it I did not actually find enough information on music magazines that covered more than one genre. I did not choose “Crash” because I do not know many people who are into rock so it would be hard find models for my images. Also there are a lot of different types of rock such as classic and indie. This would make it harder to focus on one audience.

  7. I would like my front cover to look similar to this. I like the idea of the half full image of the artist. I would like the stories to go on side around the image. My image will be in front of the masthead.

  8. This is what I would like my contents page to look like. I would have most of the images on the contents page with the contents on the left hand side. I would put page numbers on the images to make it easier for the reader to find the stories.

  9. I would like my double spread to look like this with the image or images making up most of the page and the interview or cover story in a dark contrast to go beside it. It would be at the front of the magazine as it is the most important asset.
