  1. CCDA STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS INITIATIVE

  2. Background • The Red Seal Program was originally established to facilitate the mobility of certified skilled workers across Canada. The Red Seal was “The ticket to mobility”! • The CCDA’s Strategic Communications Initiative was launched in 2012 due to different factors such as the 2009 amendments to Chapter 7 of the AIT and the desire of the CCDA to better promote the program to apprentices, employers and stakeholders. • The CCDA istakingadvantage of the new environment to increase promotion of the program. • CCDA approved the CCDA Communications Strategy in the fall of 2012 which included new messaging in line with the program’s status as the “ Canadian standard of excellence for skilled trades’’ and highlighted the program benefits to target audiences

  3. What’s New! NEW RED SEAL COMMUNICATIONS TOOLS • Development of new marketing and communication tools (poster, brochure, kiosk, banners, and other promotional tools) • Development focused on the Red Seal brand and included the updating and development of key Red Seal promotional pieces • The new Red Seal brand was officially launched in June 2013 during the Skills Canada National Competition in Vancouver. • The new RedSeal kiosk is traveling the country to national, regional and local events. Look for it! IN THE WORKS! Development of the new Red Seal website • As the Red Seal’s primary communication’s portal, it is important to ensure we continue to stay connected with current trends in technology. Following the Strategic Communications Initiative we are in a better position to structure the website to address the needs of our various stakeholder groups, including consumers. • The new Red Seal website is set to be launched in June 2014.

  4. Recognizing EXCELLENCE RECOGNIZE YOUR PEERS! • 2014 Darryl Cruickshank Memorial Award (DCMA) • The call for the 2014 DCMA was launched on February 25 and will close on April 3rd, 2014 • The 2014 DCMA will be awarded on June 2, 2014 during the 2014 CAF Conference which will be held in Ottawa.

  5. Next Steps FOLLOWING THE LAUNCH OF THE WEBSITE: • Continue the development of promotional packages for use at different events and to target audiences such as employers and educators. • Plan a Red Seal visibility/awareness initiative within the skilled trades industry to promote the Red Seal and its value/benefits to all target audiences. • Connect target audiences to representatives of the Red Seal Program to expose them to messaging, value propositions and benefits directly. WHAT COULD BE NEXT • As part of the CCDA Communications Strategy, the CCDA has interesting options to promote the Red Seal Program in the coming years. The CCDA’s Communication and Promotion Committee, under the guidance of the CCDA Executive, will continue to evaluate these options as a way to promote the Red Seal Program to Canadians. Stay tuned!
