  1. Body Systems Lesson 1 Circulatory, Respiratory and Nervous Systems BY: BRIANNA SHIELDS

  2. DO NOW • 1. Name one human body system • 2. What gas do humans take in? • 3. What organ keeps your blood pumping?

  3. GOAL • To understand how the circulatory, respiratory and nervous systems function together to maintain homeostasis in the body.

  4. GOAL Oxygen + food = energy (for cells) Respiratory System

  5. Path of Oxygen through the Respiratory System

  6. Pathway of oxygen 1. Mouth/ nose 2. Trachea 3. Two bronchial tubes 4. Bronchi branches 5. Air sacs 6. Capillaries Blood picks up OXYGEN in capillaries of air sacs The waste CARBON DIOXIDE is dumped off Respiratory System

  7. Goal Blood transports O2 & nutrients to cells & picks up wastes Circulatory System

  8. Pathway of blood through the circulatory system

  9. Pathway of Blood Blood is pumped by the heart & carried by 3 types of blood vessels: Arteries- carry blood away from heart (carries CO2) Veins- carry blood to heart (carries O2) Capillaries- tiny, thin walls so O2 and CO2 can pass through Circulatory System

  10. Pathway of blood Blood picks up oxygen at the lungs, and dumps carbon dioxideback off Circulatory System

  11. Which two body systems are closely related to one another??? Respiratory and Circulatory they work together to provide oxygen for the cells and remove wastes (carbon dioxide) from the blood and body Systems Working Together

  12. GOAL Receiving and sending messages Nervous System

  13. Stimulus Response Pathway Made of nerve cells (NEURONS) 1. Senses send signals (stimulus) to brain 2. Brain decides how to respond (response) 3. Nerves carry response to proper part Nervous System

  14. How do messages travel?

  15. REVIEW • What is the goal of the respiratory system? • Lungs take in oxygen and combine it with nutrients for energy for cells. Also, get rid of carbon dioxide

  16. REVIEW • What is the goal of the circulatory system? • Blood transports O2 & nutrients to cells & picks up wastes to get rid of them

  17. REVIEW • How do the circulatory system and respiratory systems work together? • they work together to provide oxygen for the cells and remove wastes (carbon dioxide) from the blood and body

  18. REVIEW • What is the goal of the nervous system? • receiving and sending messages

  19. REVIEW • What is the major organ of the respiratory system? • Lungs

  20. REVIEW • What is the major organ of the circulatory system? • Heart (which pumps blood)

  21. REVIEW • What is the major organ of the nervous system? • Nerves/brain/spinal cord

  22. WEBSITES • Heart and Brain Virtual Body • My Body for Kids: Brain/Nervous System • My Body for Kids: Heart/Circulatory System • Yucky Body Facts • Interactive Body Review Games • Innerbody.com

  23. Write this assignment into your AGENDA • Body System Homework 1- due next class
