  3. 9 Objectives • At the end of this workshop you will be able to: • Identify the three different types of blogs • Create and edit all three types of blogs • Demonstrate how to add a blog to course content • Use the blog grading feature • Illustrate blog entry basics, such as creating, editing and commenting on a blog entry • Demonstrate how to delete a blog • Discuss teaching and learning applications of blogs

  5. 9 Blackboard 9 Blogs Pros Cons Users already enrolled in the course all have access the blog Instructor/Students do not have to create extra accounts All built in to Blackboard – don’t have to follow RSS feed No need to set up permissions Grading blogs built into the system Limited functionality Unable to personalize/edit the design of blogs Blogs are not public – only viewable by users enrolled in the Blackboard course

  6. 9 What is a Blog? A tool for students to share their ideas & thoughts in an electronic platform Blackboard 9 allows instructors to create blogs and students to create entries within that blog

  8. 9 Course Blogs • A single blog for all users enrolled in the course • All users enrolled in the course can: • Create blog entries • Post comments on other blog entries • Instructors can: • Edit blog entries and comments • Delete blog entries and comments

  9. 9 Individual Blogs • Each user is assigned their own personal blog • That user is the only one who can create entries in their blog • All other users can: • View their blog entries • Post comments

  10. 9 Group Blogs • A blog for groups created in Blackboard • Only members in the group can: • Create blog entries • Post comments on blog entries
