Summary of Requirements • This draft is about inter-area MPLS optimal routing • The basic requirement for this is to facilitate Inter-area MPLS Traffic Engineering • Needed by SPs who want to migrate to a multi-area environment • RFC4105 defines the detailed requirements for inter-area traffic engineering: • Optimality of the computed inter-area TE-LSP path • Capability to share backup bandwidth. • Inter-area TE-LSP setup time. • RSVP-TE and IGP scalability. 67th IETF San Diego November 2006

Remaining Issues • Generalization of our scheme • The scheme could be used for other backbone networks, assuming edge nodes can establish optical connections between one another in an agile manner • Shared Inter-area Protection can be provided based on this scheme • Path or segments • Dynamic or static • Backup information management and exchanging • Related efficient signaling process • Interworking with PCE-based architecture is possible • By involving out scheme, some issues with PCE might be solved, e.g., • Reduce the amount of message exchanged and complexity of computing an inter-domain optimal path • Improve the efficiency of RSVP-TE when setting up a long path 67th IETF San Diego November 2006
