VIRAL MENINGITIS • Infection of the meninges, which is a thin lining over the brain and spinal cord. • The disease can be viral, bacterial, fungal, or protozoan, depending on the type of person effected. • The disease has been around for a while, it is not known exactly for how long, though, and it is one of the most common diseases. • Viral Meningitis is most common in children and babies because the immune systems of younger people are not as well built.   3. YOU KNOW YOU HAVE IT WHEN YOU HAVE….. • HEADACHES • NECK STIFFNESS • PHOTOPHOBIA (intense sensitivity to bright light) • DROWSINESS/FATIGUE • CONFUSION • FEVER • POOR EATING • INTENSE INTESTINAL PAIN CAMERON

  4. HOW VIRAL MENINGITIS SPREADS • Viral Meningitis can spread from simple person to person contact. It can also be spread from insects of certain types, although some of those insects are unknown to carry the disease. • Viral Meningitis can also spread from respiratory droplets like coughing, sneezing, sweating, saliva, or mucus. • The disease can also come from changing a baby`s soiled diaper, without cleansing the hands.   5. TREATMENT OF THE DISEASE • Treatments can consist of multiple antibiotics, although there is no specific cure. • A vaccination may be necessary, in this case, a hospital trip may be well needed. • Most patients recover by themselves between 7-10 days. HAYLEY

PAST AND CURRENT RESEARCH • Some current research includes scientists conducting many experiments to find a cure for Viral Meningitis. • The scientists thoroughly study the way the disease works in order to counter the attack. • In past research, scientists have found antibiotics to help control the disease, but not completely cure it.
